Double Stick (Yawara) Routines

Perform with a stick in each hand.

#1 Movement drill downward

LH stick against your right ribcage under your right arm
RH stick resting on your right shoulder
RH downward strike right high to left low
LH downward strike right high to left low
Following the motion of the sticks rotate them on your left side and come back left high to  right low
RH downward strike
LH downward strike
Repeat continuously
(Your motion should in the form of a figure 8 movement with each hand)

#2 Movement Drill upward

LH stick against your right ribcage under your right arm
RH stick resting on your right shoulder
LH upward strike right low to left high
RH upward strike right low to left high
Following the motion of the sticks rotate them on your left side and come back left low to  right high
LH upward strike
RH upward strike
Repeat continuously
(Your motion should in the form of a figure 8 movement with each hand)

#3 Double strike drill

LH stick against your right ribcage under the right arm
RH stick resting on your right shoulder
RH strike out horizontal followed by LH strike horizontal
Continue strike motion through to left side
As your LH strike comes round bring it up so that it will finish on top of your left shoulder
As you bring the LH strike around and past the apex point in front snap horizontal  strike back to the front with your RH, bringing it back so it is under your left arm resting on your left ribcage
LH strike out horizontal followed by RH strike horizontal
Continue strike motion through to right side
As your RH strike comes round bring it up so that it will finish on top of your right shoulder
As you bring the RH strike around and past the apex point in front snap horizontal  strike back to the front with your LH, bringing it back so it is under your right arm resting on your left ribcage

Repeat in a continuous motion on each side
